Avoid The Osteoporosis Pill

The best way to avoid osteoporosis, and the pill, is to do weight-bearing exercises that cause your bones to remain healthy while increasing density.

You're not too young or old to start some kind of weight-bearing exercise (this includes body weight exercises). Exercises like squats, lunges, bench press, biceps curls, leg curls, etc. can be done with little or no weight.

Note to bikers and swimmers---you also need to do weight-bearing exercises because biking and swimming does not place enough stress on the bones to allow sufficient regeneration and increased density.

Alarming Stats About American Kid's Fitness

According to the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, here is the sad news for our kids:

--1 out of every 4 children are considered overweight

--2/3 of American children ages 6 to 17 cannot pass a basic fitness test and 40% of children ages 5 to 8 show at least one risk factor for heart disease (increased blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, and sedentary lifestyle)

--3 out of 4 children are at risk for developing heart disease later in life

THE GOOD NEWS? WE CAN START DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT TODAY! ENCOURAGE YOUR KIDS TO GET ACTIVE EVERY DAY DOING SOMETHING THEY ENJOY, WHETHER ITS SPORTS OR SOME OTHER ACTIVITY. ADULTS MUST LEAD THE WAY AND GET ACTIVE THEMSELVES!

Safe Weight Loss

It is safe to lose about 2 pounds per week as a part of your exercise program.

At the beginning of your program, you might lose more weight and then level off in later weeks. So, if you want to lose 30 pounds the right way, then expect it to take about 15 weeks.

Your genetic makeup and adherence to your nutrition plan are two factors that could increase/decrease this time frame. What is the right way to exercise? A combination of cardio exercise (2-3 days a week) and resistance training (at least 3 days a week) is a proven effective permanent weight loss tandem.

Resistance training will cause the majority of your weight loss to be fat-mass loss (increasing muscle mass at the same time) and it will also speed up your metabolism. A general full body strength exercise program will keep the weight off permanently.

More On The Core

Core Training Should Be a Part of Every Workout--30% to 40% of Work-Related Injuries Involve Core Muscles (such as low back pain). Low Back Pain Affects Nearly 85% of All Adults.


You should always do full body strength training which will include core work. Full body strength training will also burn the most fat from your body.

You don't have to do 1000 crunches. Really, you concentrate on core exercises like ab curl ups, planks, bridges, cobras, mountain climbers and back extensions.
